seasonal shift autumn

The season is shifting again and this feels like the biggest seasonal shift of them all as the days get shorter and the landscape sheds its summer green. Autumn brings a new routine as we squeeze every last drop of warmth and light out of the tail end of summer. Before long the new season will herald mellow misty mornings, the first storms will hurry the leaves from the trees, we'll light the wood burner for the first time, and pull woolly hats and gloves out of storage, before the cold and dark inevitably encroach once more...

"She wishes she had a bell jar to capture everything about this moment. The faint tang of woodsmoke and leaf mould, the shafts of sun through the rusting leaf canopy, the way the actors' voices carry through the air, the violin and accordion reverberating off the wooden benches that form the amphitheatre, the layers of history that she can feel all around her. She stacks some beer glasses ready for the washer, wipes down the wooden bar and then folds her arms, leans forward onto the polished oak surface, breathing deeply and closing her eyes. "
