Saltwater mansion by David Whitehouse
I kept bumping into this book on social media and being instantly drawn to its cover (I know, shallow and not always a good way to choose a book!) with its brutalist sun-warmed concrete, lonely window figure, and perfect sky blue typography. So, I hopped onto my library website and joined the long queue of reservations – which is always a good sign, don't you think?
It's my favourite type of creative non-fiction, a work that is part memoir, part journalism, part cultural/personal historical reflection, and it's really well written. Super moreish, intriguing, and nostalgic without being at all, in the least bit 'sickly' or sensationalist, if you know what I mean?
Anyway, as I type I haven't quite finished it, but by the time you read this I'll know exactly how the search for Caroline Lane ends. And in the meantime, that cover sent me straight to the dye pots. My perfect blend of honey-gold, sandy beige, warm woody brown, with hints of warm coral pink and that flash of aqua/sky blue.
I've dyed a couple of batches of pightle | fingering/4ply and just a handful of skeins of bray | lace as a fluffy companion and I think this might be the perfect shade to lead your needles or hook into the seasonal transition we're just on the cusp of!
These are one-of-a-kind non-repeatable (although seriously I might try!) so grab one (or more!) while you can because once they're gone, that's it...
Our 'currently reading' micro-collections are limited edition shades inspired by the book currently on my bedside table.
Each collection comprises just a handful of shades, dyed on a variety of yarn bases and is released as I'm reading a book I'm loving.
Please note - this limited edition collection does not qualify for our 'sweater quantity' discount.
