Ready-to-ship skeins have sold out. Pre-orders will stay open until 10:00 bst Monday, July 21st and yarn will be dyed and dispatched by Friday, July 25th.
#skeinLight is my chance to indulge my love of light in all its nuanced forms, as I take a single image from my light-filled camera roll each month and use it to create two shades. One variegated, either ~flash~ or ~fluid~, and a semi-solid companion to contrast or compliment.
The sky, the sea, the sun on a hay meadow, shadows on a worn brick path, glimmers of light on a mist-cloaked marsh. Fairy lights, moonlight, crepuscular rays through a moody cloud-scudded sky. I love the way the play of light can change the atmosphere and outlook entirely, and change my mood...
I'll be using all of the above as inspiration for this year's limited-run series. Two shades each month throughout 2025, dyed on a variety of fingering weight yarn bases, some from our regular range and some popping-up just for this series.
July – treated us to possibly the most spectacular full moon I've ever seen. Our new home has spectacular views of the huge Suffolk sky, and it's never more apparent than at night as the moon works its way slowly across the sky... The full moon itself was impossible to capture with just my phone camera, as it rose, huge, and vivid orange, above the distant tree line but as I walked in the garden later the same evening with the dog, it was illuminating ribbons of high, fine cloud and the sky was aglow in shades of gold, apricot, and pink, all set against an inky blue sky, not yet entirely dark...
Two shades; moonshine and moonshadow, together inspired by the amazing moonrise. Both are dyed on cade | singles. As usual, if the ready-to-ship skeins sell out quickly, I'll leave pre-orders open until Monday 21st [10:00 bst] and dye more next week to dispatch by Friday, July 25th.
We use professional acid dyes with good light and wash fastness and do our best to exhaust every dye bath and reuse water wherever possible to reduce any further environmental impact. Occasionally a small amount of 'loose' dye may remain in the yarn after rinsing (most likely with deeply saturated shades) and we always recommend hand washing in very cool water and pre-washing your yarn separately if you are intending to mix light and dark shades in a single garment/project.
We recommend hand washing your finished projects in cool water to preserve the vibrancy of the dye and, as with all small-batch, hand-dyed yarn that doesn't have dye lots, we also recommend knitting alternate rows from two skeins when working on larger projects to avoid noticeable changes between skeins.
