{cooms - the high ridges in muddy tracks that rise between wheel ruts}

Cooms is a springy, bouncy yarn constructed from 3 plys of superwash merino. 3ply yarn is lovely and 'round' and knits into a fabric with great stitch definition, so is perfect for cables and lace patterns - but even a swathe of plain stocking stitch will have beautiful texture and sharp definition.

What makes this yarn so special is the combination of extra fine merino wool for softness and the high twist for bounce and texture. It dyes beautifully in all our favourite shades and it is gorgeous to knit with. We love this for sweaters, shawls, hats and mitts...

We dye this in batches of four skeins and will keep adding shades and re-stocking as usual but if you require more skeins for a sweater you can also find it dyed-to-order here.

This yarn qualifies for our 'sweater quantity' discount ~ Buy 6 full size, full price skeins of meadowyarn hand-dyed yarn and get 15% OFF ~ Discount applied automatically ~ Mix-and-match across yarn bases ~ Does not apply to mini-skeins, limited edition collections,  or 'sale' yarn ~ May not be used in conjunction with any other discount code.

We dye Cooms in small batches using a combination of kettle dyeing for semi-solid and tonal shades and low-immersion and hand-painting for variegated shades that will 'pool' or 'flash' depending on gauge. Even within a dye batch, each skein is unique as a result of our dyeing techniques.

Although Cooms is a superwash fibre, we recommend hand washing in cool water to preserve the vibrancy of the dye.

As with all small-batch, hand-dyed yarn that doesn't have dye lots, we also recommend knitting alternate rows from two skeins when working on larger projects to avoid noticeable changes between skeins.

We use professional acid dyes with good light and wash fastness and do our best to exhaust every dye bath and reuse water wherever possible to reduce any further environmental impact. Occasionally a small amount of 'loose' dye may remain in the yarn after rinsing (most likely with deeply saturated shades) and we always recommend hand washing in very cool water and pre-washing your yarn separately if you are intending to mix light and dark shades in a single garment/project.
