{lythe - an old Fenland word describing weather that is calm with an absence of wind}

This luxurious yarn is a blend of merino (60%), silk (20%), and yak (20%) and has a gorgeous pale grey colour naturally, so lighter shades are nuanced and heathered and deep shades have extra depth and warmth. It has a lovely soft drape and a beautiful sheen; gorgeous to work with and to wear. This yarn is super-soft and warm, so perfect for next-to-skin garments, shawls, wraps, and scarves. Its 3ply construction knits to a regular 4ply/fingering/sock gauge.

This yarn qualifies for our 'sweater quantity' discount ~ Buy 6 full size, full price skeins of meadowyarn hand-dyed yarn and get 15% OFF ~ Discount applied automatically ~ Mix-and-match across yarn bases ~ Does not apply to mini-skeins, limited edition collections,  or 'sale' yarn ~ May not be used in conjunction with any other discount code.

We dye Lythe in small batches using a variety of techniques to develop layered tonal shades and complex variegated effects. We usually dye batches of 3 skeins but even within a dye batch, each skein is unique.

Although Lythe contains superwash merino fibre, we recommend hand washing in cool water to preserve the vibrancy of the dye. As with all small-batch, hand-dyed yarn that doesn't have dye lots, we also recommend knitting alternate rows from two skeins when working on larger projects to avoid noticeable changes between skeins with semi-solid shades and unwanted pooling or flashing with variegated shades.

We use professional acid dyes with good light and wash fastness and do our best to exhaust every dye bath and to reuse water wherever possible to reduce any further environmental impact. Occasionally a small amount of 'loose' dye may remain in the yarn after rinsing (most likely with deeply saturated shades) and we always recommend hand washing in very cool water and pre-washing your yarn separately if you are intending to mix light and dark shades in a single garment/project.
