Meadowyarn - Curious Handmade - The Shawl Society III - yarn packs
** Update - 22nd June - Our first mega-batch of pre-ordered packs has been dispatched **
The dye pots are still bubbling and all outstanding orders will be dispatched over the course of the next few days. (Pre-orders placed after 18:40 BST on Thursday 14th are still in production as per our original notice...)
Yarn packs will continue to be available as a custom order and will be dispatched within our usual 5-7 day lead time for a 'dyed to order' product.
The pack comprises FOUR 100g skeins of Hain | fingering/sock/4ply as follows:
1 x Honeycombed
3 x Beekeeper
Two shades inspired by a wooden door set in a honey coloured stone wall, dotted with lichen and moss and draped with ivy and honeysuckle...
Beekeeper is a rich mix of greens, from deep forest through to pale glaucous tones, speckled with hints of pink, lavender, gold and brown. Honeycombed is a warm beige with grey and honey tones and shares its speckles with Beekeeper so they are perfectly co-ordinated.
The dye techniques used mean that each yarn pack is unique... maybe leaning towards lighter tones, heavier speckles, more vibrant or slightly muted... so your shawl will be unique to you!
The yarn pack is available at the special price of £65.00 - a saving of £10.80 on the usual RRP for 4 skeins of Hain.
About the yarn base...
Hain is wonderful woolly superwash Polwarth yarn which is also beautifully soft. The Polwarth sheep is a New Zealand breed that is 75% Merino and 25% Lincoln, meaning it has the softness of merino wool with a longer staple length so is less likely to pill/bobble with wear.
Hain is perfect for garments and accessories alike and we love the woolly texture for lightweight cardigans and sweaters as well as scarves, shawls, hats and cowls.
We kettle dye Hain in small batches using a variety of techniques to develop layered tonal shades and complex variegated effects. Each skein is unique and most colourways are 'one of a kind' (so if you see something that steals your heart grab it while you can!)
Although Hain is a superwash fibre, we recommend hand washing in cool water to preserve the vibrancy of the dye.
As with all small batch, hand dyed yarn that doesn't have dye lots, we also recommend knitting alternate rows from two skeins when working on larger projects to avoid noticeable changes between skeins.
We use professional non-hazardous, non-chrome, low impact, heavy metal-free acid dyes. We do our best to exhaust every dye bath and to reuse water wherever possible to reduce any further environmental impact. Occasionally a small amount of 'loose' dye may remain in the yarn after rinsing (most likely with deeply saturated shades) and we always recommend hand washing in very cool water and pre-washing your yarn separately if you are intending to mix light and dark shades in a single garment/project.
