Towards the edge of wintertime...

The Curious Handmade Knitvent collection launches our gift-knitting season every year with its delightful patterns and fabulous community spirit. It's no secret that it always includes a wonderful 'scrappy' pattern, designed to utilise a yarn advent calendar (or use up those precious odds and ends of sock yarn that get poked into a bag through the year) so when Helen asked if we would be able to come up with a mini-skein set for this year's scrappy design we said, why yes, I think we can!

So, this mini-skein pack isn't an advent calendar as such, the skeins are not individually wrapped or numbered, and you can dig in and cast on as soon as it arrives with no qualms.

The mini-skein yarn pack contains 24 x 20g miniPightle skeins (100% superwash merino) in a range of semi-solid shades inspired by a Nordic/Skandi palette. Cool aqua and teal, warm honey gold and rust, cherry red and raspberry pink...

We've called the collection 'towards the edge of wintertime'.

Due to Covid-19 related lockdown mini-skeins have been in short supply since March and we have dyed all the skeins we were able to lay our hands on but have only a dozen kits. Apologies if you missed out...

Although Pightle is a superwash fibre, we recommend hand washing in cool water to preserve the vibrancy of the dye.

As with all small-batch, hand-dyed yarn that doesn't have dye lots, we also recommend knitting alternate rows from two skeins when working on larger projects to avoid noticeable changes between skeins.

We use professional acid dyes with good light and wash fastness and do our best to exhaust every dye bath and to reuse water wherever possible to reduce any further environmental impact. Occasionally a small amount of 'loose' dye may remain in the yarn after rinsing (most likely with deeply saturated shades) and we always recommend hand washing in very cool water and pre-washing your yarn separately if you are intending to mix light and dark shades in a single garment/project.
